Ideas For Customising Coloured Concrete

Posted on: 28 May 2020

All concrete might consist of similar substances like stone, sand and cement, but it can look totally different depending on how it's treated and decorated. Here are several ideas for customising the concrete around your outdoor entertainment areas.

Natural Stone Replica Patio

Because it's so versatile, concrete can mimic a wide range of other materials including natural stone. For a patio, you could cover it in look-alike sandstone or slate pavers. To create the clefts and grooves of real pavers and joins, contractors press moulds onto unset cement. These stamps are available in different textures to create effects of large or small pavers. Various pigments and stains can create colours such as sandy fawn or blue-grey. Multiple hues applied over others creates the multi-toned effect of real stone. Across a patio, large-format tan 'pavers' will give a classic vibe, or rough-hewn greys can create a more rustic feel.

Look-Alike Timber Or Stone Pool Deck

A pool deck creates a holiday feel at home, but it needs the right look to evoke such an atmosphere. For an organic feel, you could surround a kidney-shaped pool with concrete that replicates crazy paving. As well as being pressed while still unset with irregular mould shapes, the concrete can feature a range of earthy rusts, greys and creams. Cement can be poured into virtually any form, so it is ideal for decking around rounded and curved swimming pools.

Alternatively, if your pool is rectangular, why not apply decorative concrete that imitates beautiful fawn travertine pavers for a classic look? Another approach would be to design concrete that mimics timber planks, full of rich browns and grooves that echo the grain of real wood. Because contractors can produce virtually any colour, your decking can imitate blonde woods, weathered, grey timber or dark teak.

Exposed Aggregate Driveway

A driveway might carry heavy vehicles, but that doesn' mean it can't be beautiful also. A stunning paving option is exposed aggregate, full of colourful stones in creams, blues, tans, yellows and reds. You can choose the colours of the aggregates, plus their size and shape. Rounded river pebbles create smoother surfaces than more pointy crushed stone; ask your paving contractor which is best for a sturdy driveway surface. You can alter the effect with the number of aggregates, adding a large quantity so that the surface is chock-full, or you could include less for a more sparse result.
