How To Use Spray On Concrete When Building a Swimming Pool

Posted on: 20 January 2020

An inground swimming pool can add a great deal of value to a typical family home and can provide hours of fun for a growing family. You may have plenty of space in your back garden and plan to introduce such a facility, but you have to make sure that you install it correctly and that you use the right techniques. Why do you need to be especially careful when introducing concrete due to the particular characteristics of the pool? Read here to find out.

Better Approach

In a traditional building project, you would pour concrete into a mould or a specially prepared base and would need to allow it to set over a period of time. This approach works very well whenever the structure is level and so long as the concrete can be left to sit without any interruption. However, you may run into problems when installing a swimming pool structure as the concrete will need to be applied to sloped and curving surfaces. In this case, you may want to consider spraying the concrete on instead as this can produce a much better result.

Wet or Dry

To effectively spray on your concrete, you will need to use a spray gun that is made for the purpose, and that will apply the concrete with sufficient force for it to remain in place and bond effectively. You can use one of two different types of gun (known as dry or wet), and in the latter case, the concrete will have been premixed and sprayed right on to the surface. If you use a dry gun, the cement will be mixed with water as you are applying it but either solution will provide you with a much stronger result.

Time and Cost

This method is particularly effective as the concrete will adhere to an upright, sloped or curved surface instantaneously, and this will cut down on the amount of time that you would otherwise need. Consequently, you can expect your spray on concrete to be more economical than the alternative and should be able to complete the swimming pool more quickly as a result.

Expert Help Recommended

It is, however, essential to ensure that the concrete is applied with the correct amount of force and with the right mix of water to cement. Consequently, you should bring in an experienced technician to do this part of the work for you and they will also have access to the right equipment for the job.
